In this video off Youtube, Pat Metheny uses the 42-String Pikasso Guitar Pikasso created by Canadian luthier Linda Manzer on his impressionistic composition “The Sound of Water” during a tour in Brussels, Belgium. (Pat Metheny & Brad Mehldau 'live' in Brussels) Podcast: Yummy Blue Monk Solo Bass!February 20, 2006 @ 15:25:05
The thing about good musicians is, they are very often perfectionist in nature. I mean who else can spend 4 to 8 hours daily just practicing on their instruments without getting bored? And all just to get that riff or tone right. (That's also probably why recordings are rare and far in-between which makes for another story altogether...)
Thus to lay hands on even a jamming or off-the-cuff impromptu recording is almost like finding a needle in a haystack. It's also quite possible that the musician feels that he or she were not good enough for the recording. Yet I beg to differ; Not trying to be philosophical here but every recording is like a piece of art, especially the ones done 'live'. No two performances are exactly the same and even during the practice process can one learn quite a lot. I like listening to solo bass recordings and transcribe the bass lines especially since the layout of the fretboard is different than the keyboards. So thanks to a dear friend and an exciting musician that I respect very much, we have our first podcast for 2006. ![]() It's a solo bass “Blue Monk” by Rozhan Razman. Enjoy! 1. PODCAST: The Zailan Razak Project @ AvantiOctober 01, 2005 @ 16:49:59
While many are still raving about the Buena Vista gig at the Hilton last Monday, Avanti was also packed to the brim for the Zailan Razak Project show last night!
Malaysian R&B singer, Dayang Nurfaizah, tenor saxophonist from Riverbank days, prince Jimmy 'Sax', Aseana Percussion Unit's Mark David, singer Gina all made guest appearances! Malaysia's The personnel for the night were no less exciting and they are 6-year-old Danial Razak (mini-drum set), Razak Ajacko (three-piece congas), Eric Li (piano). Malaysian rock group Exist's Ujang (drums) and Zailan Razak himself on bass. Zailan has also been involved in procuding a few tunes for Dayang's new upcoming album in late-November. I was impressed with Danial's drum solo and Ujang's maiden voyage into jazz. More on that in an upcoming review but first, here are the files (8-bit mono) for your listening pleasure!
